About Us
The Tawacomen Tribe stands as an independent Indigenous community, rejecting blood quantum and U.S. government oversight. We focus on cultural preservation for all Native descendants in Nevada and across the U.S.
Our name, Tawacomen, means “People of the Scattered Roots.” It reflects our mission to reconnect those who have been displaced, disenrolled, or otherwise separated from their Indigenous identity. We embrace all Native descendants, regardless of their level of documented ancestry, and provide a home for those who have been denied recognition elsewhere.
With no minimum Native ancestry required, we verify membership through DNA or genealogical proof, ensuring inclusivity while maintaining legitimacy. The Tawacomen Tribe exists to unite and strengthen our people, preserving the traditions, languages, and cultures that colonial systems sought to erase.
Who We Are and What We Stand For
We are not a federally recognized or historical tribal nation—nor are we trying to be. The Tawacomen Tribe is a newer community focused on uniting and preserving Native Americans and their heritage. Our purpose is to keep ancestral traditions, stories, and identities alive for those whose connections have been weakened or lost over generations.
Many people today have been separated from their ancestral tribes due to lost or erased documentation, or because their ancestors chose, for whatever reason, not to enroll in their tribal nations. These breaks in the chain often prevent descendants from formal recognition or enrollment in their original tribes.
We welcome all Native descendants who wish to reconnect, honor, and preserve the legacy of their ancestors. Our goal is to help keep their history, culture, and spirit alive—uniting people of scattered roots and ensuring their heritage endures for generations to come.
